Our goal for our STEAM program is for students to develop the skills to be:
Problem solvers by exploring ideas from different points of view.
Innovators by creating new methods, ideas, and products to share.
Communicators by sharing ideas and learning from others.
Hands-on learners by investigating with tools, objects, and materials.
Creative and critical thinkers by asking, imagining, and analyzing new ideas.
Decision makers by imagining solutions and picking the best one.
STEAM Programming
Kindergarten students will be engaged in STEAM units throughout the year. Students will be presented with driving questions such as 'How do we, as marine biologists, design a plan to clean up the ocean and our local bodies of water?'
Students will participate in engaging lessons and activities that address the driving question through the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.
Students in grades 1-5 will participate in three STEAM projects over the course of the year. These projects will last two - three weeks in duration. Students will be presented with a driving question such as 'How can children increase their consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables?' Students will participate in engaging lessons and activities that address the driving question through the subjects of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math.'
In addition, these projects aim to increase community and school-wide partnerships, and make wonderful use of our beautiful campus and Foothills Learning Garden. If you'd like to learn more about our Foothills Learning Garden.
