What Happens in the Garden?
The Foothills Learning Garden is an experiential learning opportunity for all students. K-5 students plan, plant and harvest-their favorite part- organic fruits and vegetables. Students use this space as an outdoor classroom to explore topics such as photosynthesis, insects, plant cycles, pollination and the importance of decomposers. The students love being outside in the garden learning with their hands and letting their curiosity grow.

The Story of Our Learning Garden
In 2012, Foothills parent Hillary Dickman began working to make her dream of a school garden a reality. Through tireless efforts in volunteer recruitment and fundraising, she helped establish the Foothills Learning Garden, benefiting all students. The garden also includes a Community Garden section with 22 rental beds, which are leased each season. Community Gardeners help water and maintain the school garden, and rental fees support the garden’s continued operation.
