Dear Parents and Friends of Foothills,
I'm so excited to introduce myself as your new principal. I am truly honored to be part of the Foothills community, which already has given me a "West Side" warm welcome. I have always admired the small community feel of Foothills Elementary and look forward to working alongside a fabulous team of educators to provide meaningful learning experiences for every student, every day. In his time as principal, Mr. Comfort has helped build a strong foundation for academic excellence. I truly believe the success of a school requires a strong partnership with parents and community and I am honored for the opportunity to serve and partner with you.
Professionally, I have been in education for over 25 years. I taught middle school science for 16 years, Teacher on Special Assignment for ASD20's Learning Services for 1 year, and middle school assistant principal for the past 9 years. My passion is fostering a learning environment where all students feel safe, connected, engaged, and challenged.
Personally, I grew up in San Diego, California where I attended San Diego State University. I moved to Colorado Springs to be closer to family 25 years ago. I have one daughter who teaches 3rd grade in Adams 12 school district and lives in Boulder. I enjoy hiking, skiing, traveling, reading, and cooking. I have an Australian Shepherd named Macie who keeps me walking in our Briargate neighborhood. This summer, I traveled to our family lake house in Maine. It was a new quarantine scene for me, with plenty of kayaking, boating, paddle boarding and family time.
My priority is to build relationships with teachers, students, parents, and community. This is what I look forward to the most. I am dedicated to maintaining a positive school culture and climate, keeping our focus on teaching and learning, with students' emotional well-being in mind.
I know many of you have plenty of questions about opening school in the fall. I hope to receive some answers and clarity this week. I appreciate your patience during this challenging time. I will do my best to keep the lines of communication open.
I look forward to meeting each of you.
